I was all set for more doom and gloom when I got blindsided with this wonderful inspirational article. Thanks, I needed that.

Interesting part biographical essay . There might be a movie coming out from this called “the Karate Kid Karen “. Kind of a heroes journey for you like for so many of us. Yes life can be difficult and today especially with the creeping head of the snake of totalitarianism infiltrating our society we have a bigger warrior fight

ahead. Onward.

Yep. I think we might surprise ourselves with what we can accomplish.

So awful, horrible that you were attacked like that by someone who is called a husband and supposed to be your biggest fan and protector! What bravery and courage work you did to do all these amazing things!!!

It was bad. But what doesn't break you makes you stronger. 💪

I think ya were born a warrior, Karen!--it's clear ya knew yer own mind an' stood up fer what ya wanted early-on, speakin' up, developin' the talents ya had within whut wuz permitted--first by fambly, later by situation, an' then finally gettin' yer feet (gloves?) wet with the right guidance. An' then--sharin' the "wealth" of yer learnin'--teachin' the art all over! Also, I think ya had ta be a born warrior ta help those tough girls--holdin' yer own, with confidence, not fear. (I seen some tough gals that'd make my hair stand on end so yer facin' 'em an' teachin' im--wull that's cahoonas! lady-style ha ha).

Yer "ex" sounds lit'rally scary, my gosh--an' I know leavin' demanded bravery too--I'm amazed how close yer tale is to JKRowlin's -- she too left her X with a 4 year old an' also got beaten ta a pulp as she describes it purdy grahpically--but she too later became a warrior (with her pen)--an' it saved her AND her kids. So nice yer parents came 'round after a time too! ;-)

Also, I LOVE yer idea of havin' kids learn the "Way of the Warrior" early! My younger one did archery an' fencin' an the "rules" of fightin' fair, of assessin' yer opponent are life lessons. (Both also good fer strength!) Ya learn when ta back off too (at least in a student situation), how ta stop without hurtin' yer opponent--an' respect--fer yer coach, an' fer the others even when they're fightin' ya hard! Plus with girls it makes 'em feel mighty--strong! Takin' lunges, holdin' yer core solid, bein' on secure footin'. My daughter wuz lucky ta have two mightly lady coaches as well as gents--she really looked up ta 'em! (One also did medieval joustin'!) The physical control, slowin' down, pacin' yerself--all that is good stuff. Cuz fightin' discipline is unique--an' doesn't in any way erase grace, agility, subtlety! Some'a these fighters look like dancers! (Mohammed Ali of course wuz famous fer that!)

I loved knowin' how the Warrior in ya meshes so beautifully with the artist in ya too--not bein' remotely athletic myself it's interestin' ta me. But I admire from the benches, I do!

Havin' just passed the 2nd Chinese NY outside of NYC--I MISS seein' all the amazin' Chinese martial arts performances--an' girls ALWAYS were a part of it! May these traditions--AND their Histories! (so important) live on! Ta me, this stuff is the real.... nuttin' in the "metaverse" kin ever compare. Guess along with truckin' we ALL gotta Keep on Boxin'!

Archery is amazing. There are many different paths to becoming a warrior. I didn't now JK Rowling's history of escaping abuse. Wow, you're right, there are some similarities there. Thank you!

You might want to read Amy Wallace's memoir of being part of Castaneda's cult in LA in the 90's. It is positively chilling the way the man controlled and abused his disciples, driving some to suicide.

I know. It would require another essay to tackle that topic.
