Another great middle-of-the-night conversation with the incomparable Rick Munn. We talked a bit about the “United States of Schizophrenia” as I like to call it. I don’t have any magical predictions about the elections. All I can say is that we have been so polarized, so filled with hatred for those we disagree with, separated from one another by algorithms that no longer give us a chance to debate and interact, just lash out in anger and, increasingly, in violence. The result will surely be that whoever wins (no matter which side) they will make it their mission to wreak revenge on those who have now become the enemy.
We are living in dangerous times. Covid was the start, giving both sides permission to demonize the other side in an almost fanatically religious manner. The closer we get to the elections, the worse it will be. Who would have thought we’d see such a rise of antisemitism in American, such hate, such extremism. We didn’t get a chance to talk much about that, but it is on my heart, as I write about in Hard Facts: From the River to the Sea.
