I was deeply affected by the stabbing of Salmon Rushdie. I met him once, but more than that, I am in love with his writing. I never read The Satanic Verses, but The Enchantress of Florence seduced me like an ardent lover, and I fell deeply into the arms of the worlds he created.
The Hollywood crowd is a big part of the sheep herd. The first one starts to "Baa, Baa" and all of them follow suit without an independent thought or research. They are the last ones that would sway my opinion on anything. It is too bad they use their popularity from their screen performances to push group think on their fans; very often, losing their fans because of it.
Great writing, as I have come to expect. That said, I find that with each passing day I read less, I speak less, I think less and I care less. My mind has been bludgeoned by lies and misinformation for so long, it refuses to absorb more news about this vile world and the vile people in it. I read jazz biographies, watch the excellent TV series "Better Call Saul", love on my two cats and my dog and the world can go f..k itself. I cannot absorb any more analysis and commentary. My brain is full, to quote the Simpsons
Not possible unless you had an insider preview. The last episode, (S6E13) airs tomorrow night, August 15th. We will DEF feel that emptiness after tomorrow night. What a masterpiece
Wait, what? I have to check which season I finished because usually when I finish an episode it starts to load the next episode, but the last episode I finished it didn't load anything after that so I thought it was the end. I will have to go back and see what I missed!

Another amazing article. Thank you! Yes, Rushdie was at the forefront of the fight for free speech. If only we all knew this back then.
As for Joni Mitchell, I have every album. Love all her work in poetry, painting and music. I too was completely disenchanted when she supported Neil Young against Joe Rogan. It was a pathetic ending to such an illustrious way of being for decades. At least it was for me. Realizing she isn’t who I thought she was has been just another stake in the heart for me.
Joni Mitchell probably doesn’t even know her music isn’t on Spotify anymore. She might not even know what Spotify even is! I wonder how many of these artists’ “taking a stand” is more of a decision from their PR team
Neil Young spoke out about removing his music and Joni Mitchell must have agreed with him. I don't know which is worse, agreeing to remove her music, or being so clueless that other people made those decisions for her. Of course, being the cynic that I am, there is more to the story of the reasoning behind the removal of the music, it just isn't part of this story here.
If half the world wanted to kill ne, I'd be studying martial arts. Actually, way less than half the world wants to kill ne and I study martial arts anyway, just in case. But I'm actually more disturbed about your story of a hospital refusing to treat a bleeding child. That's a systematic flaw in our society. Maybe the rules were different then, or maybe that hospital was staffed by psychopaths, but it's not required currently to have permission to treat an injured minor.
Ha, we are fellow martial artists, I see. Yes, it is extremely disturbing that the staff had so little regard for this young man that they left him to suffer like that. But I am no longer surprised by anything, not after the madness of COVID.

Thank you Karen Hunt!

I am very sad because I recently reached the end of Better Call Saul and there is an empty place where it once was!

Childish behavior in adults seems so common today. Narcissism can be found everywhere.
It seems he is, miraculously, on the road to recovery.
