Had we nuked Hanoi in 1963, it is likely we’d have saved over a million Vietnamese lives (we killed 2M), and all 75K American lives. And saddam likely would have listened to us, precluding that stupid invasion.
These drawn-out conventional wars of attrition always cost more - blood and treasure - than simply nuking the enemy. Nuking Japan saved - 1M American, and between 6-8M Japanese - lives, depending on whether you use the estimates from the Navy or the Army.
