It’s a reflection of what they wish they could be but they are not and so they have to bring those people down because it’s too horrible of a reminder…
Yes, that’s why people are shamed for (and ashamed of) being honest. It’s a sick ideology that sets the tone these days. It’s inauthenticity that pays off. Phony politeness and spinelessness.
But once people taste the sweetness and the empowering feeling that comes with standing up and saying no to nonsense they won’t be able to act any other way.
When I (as the only one in the school where I worked at the time) refused to avail myself of the silver bullet last year all I felt (besides feeling frustrated with the absurdity and the stupidity of the whole situation) was exhilarated. Honesty and self-respect go hand in hand. Good for the immune system too, I'd bet.
There is no doubt: truthfulness is like a muscle that needs to be exercised. The dictum being: use it or lose it.
Karen is resilient and kind, yet she is also incredibly vulnerable. She has a high level of intelligence and is capable of handling practically any challenge.
