I saw the adjoining school district post a similar hijab day post. I could not help but think of Yazmine Mohammed and her telling of how she tried to get out of her abusive Islamist household being subjected to abuse by her step father and how the Canadian judge deemed it a ‘cultural issue’ sending her back with her abusers. Not protected by family, not protected by state. These girls are the true victims of these stupid posts and policies.

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

Exactly.

Don't know if you ever saw Yasmine Mohammed's interview with me.

Yes it was excellent - I mean the whole thing is lunacy. Imagine a school having a day dedicated to any item of clothing. Talk about missing the point of education

Colleen's avatar

Why are so many so called “feminists” supporting these kinds of regressive movements? It is infuriating.

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

Feminists are the biggest fools of them all. Yes, it is extremely infuriating.

Someone should ask Mamdani what happens to Iranian women who choose not to wear hijab… at one of his many daily press avails.

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

You'd think someone would ask him, as a Shi'ite Muslim what he thinks of the Ayatollah Khamanei and the revolution but no one does that.

Ruth 🟦's avatar

I wonder what it will take for the media to turn on him.

Maybe if they ever catch a glimpse of the hate and rage he’s hiding (not very well).

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

Behind that slick smile … it’s scary.

Joy B's avatar

It's in his eyes

A friend of mine is Iranian. She is the boldest, most outspoken, opinionated woman I know. She's told me that when she's in a situation where she has to wear the hijab, she immediately feels timid and muted, afraid to be her full self. Nobody can convince me that's not the point of it

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

This is so true. It’s part of what made me angry when I looked at the photo of the high school girls wearing the hijab. Their demeanor was entirely changed. So subdued. Unable to move freely. And they all looked the same.

One again, I say “Thank You” for your voice for those who are not allowed to use theirs. It’s so unconscionable that westerners support the humiliation and submission that some women have to endure.

The times we live in are so mixed up and degraded that we can only hope for the appearance of the Messiah to straighten it all out.

Again, you are very appreciated by me and others.

Alan Jurek's avatar

Thanks Karen for this important article.

Compulsory hijab wearing reduces women to objects and has no place in any society.

Hijab out !

Stephanie Ross's avatar

They don’t see this day is submit yourself day

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

Yes, it is a day for the west to show its submission to Islam by encouraging its own women to put on the hijab. unbelievable.

Joy B's avatar

But on St Brigid's Day. Of all days. Truly appalling

K Brooker's avatar

It makes me sick to think that we are celebrating the subjugation of women! What? Where are the feminists?

3 things:

Congrats on progress!

Maybe a year or so ago I saw some stupid blonde british woman who converted to islam and made a video saying she didn't want to wear the hijab. I wonder how things are going for her???

New York has always been a somewhat ironic and tortured place. In my lifetime it's mostly been an amazing adventure (except fighting traffic to get to business meetings). We've had so many great times there even with a few minor unpleasant ones. Underneath was always the knowledge that there were power brokers manipulating everything and that it was a liberal stronghold. Even though it's still a magical place in some ways with many good people, I'm so happy that the overwhelming leftists there will suffer their choices.

The dumbass mayor's wife exposes her arms, exposes her legs, and doesn't wear a hijab (really should be called a hijack) yet the dumb F*** followers of his, miss the irony. Let them have what they've brought upon themselves. Let the city degrade to a real-life Escape From New York existence. Then, either good people will restore it better than ever or all our discussions will be in vain anyway.

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

Thank you.

I hope New York can balance itself and get back to some semblance of sanity. don't know if New Yorkers will learn or not. When everything goes to hell in NYC, Mamdani and his leftist followers can blame the government, it won't be their fault. And it's disturbing that those of the far right, like Tucker Carlson, won't say a word against Mamdani, in fact will praise him. And it isn't just in blue states, either. Look at Texas.

Mike Huckabee is scheduled to speak with *ucker carlson, but other than making some points we'd agree with, nothing will change. And no, I won't listen to that per-pubescent loser even though Huckabee will be the interviewee.

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

One only has so much time in the day. I hadn't heard that Huckabee would be on with him.

How come the New York City did elect a muslin mayor? This is so disgusting!

And now bringing this BS issue to America! Hijab or no hijab is such a stupid conversation.

This islam ideology with its sharia law, is an offense to the intelligent humans. Maybe good for the wild desert people, But this is not for the West Greek Roman and Christian Civilization.

Jesus came to bring love, and teach acceptance, respect, and forgiveness to the people of that time, 2,000 years ago. These muslims do not know that, they did not learn the good news taught by Jesus. It is time for them to learn about Jesus and his teachings.

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

Also, didn't realize Yasmine Mohammed had set up a No Hijab Day!

Shirley's avatar

It was marked in London this year by Kellie-Jay Keen. Not great numbers, hopefully more next year.

Remove this mayor quickly! It was such a stupid move of the newyorkers to elect this guy for mayor! We are Greek-Roman-Christian Civilization, nothing to see with the barbaric sharia law. Wise women of New York, impeach this mayor quick! Do not think twice! Action now!

Switter’s World's avatar

I think the death toll for Iranian protesters is at 60,000 and maybe as high as 100,000. SMH.

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

I am waiting to get verification. I hear many different numbers. I am sure it is horrifically high.

I think of the claims of Israel committing "genocide" and not a peep about Iran.

Ken Garcia's avatar

So barbaric. How do people who live in freedom freely submit to having their freedom taken away?

Btw: Can you tell us what the sign that Roya Hesmati is holding up says?

Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek's avatar

Good question about the sign. It isn't held by Roya. It's another anonymous woman. I have a link to the post in my essay.
