This reminds me of the corn disaster of the 1930s(?), I think. That followed a few decades after the world wide rice disaster: singular crop practices designed to maximise profit at the expense of taste, health and ecological/plant resilience. This was really well described in Margaret Visser's fascinating look at the history of food in her book Much Depends on Dinner.
Yes. I've met a few American's who have left GMO-Glypho-USA, and stomach and health issue take a quantum leap in improvement. I am curious, though, and so will follow up with my super aware organic shop friend.
