You said it all, just as their eyes spoke to the camera and reached our hearts so profoundly. I can only imagine how their family members feel and wish that we could do something to lift away their deep sorrow, if even for a minute.
The kind of evil that commits these acts of sadistic savagery to such special, courageous individuals is incomprehensible. The fact that they appear to take delight in these acts as they did on Oct 7, 2023 and since then, makes the idea of even attempting to understand feel ludicrous. I do not think I will ever understand.
I do not know anyone who could possibly justify any of these actions of cruelty and terror, even though there are some, who manage to still be fooled, or choose to believe the lies, might try. Their empty rationale fails, especially when looking into the faces of those who have suffered.
The only explanation that makes any sense to me is that there is an extreme evil in this world. That darkening evil seems to prey on the best of humanity when it gets an opportunity.
As you said, it’s vital to tell these stories, again and again, especially when we are fighting a media that continues in its cold silence or to push its propaganda.
It’s so important to remember and learn something about who each person was by hearing about them. At the very least this is one way to honor those whose lives were taken by the hands of evil, as well as to honor those who endured the atrocities during their captivity and were finally released.
We are ‘celebrating’ the Festival of Lights tonight, which began at sundown. It’s an important time to do so as the darkness seems to grow and spread. After listening to your poignant essay, looking at the photos and watching the video, I will incorporate their names within our prayers each night.
